Jona's world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community. When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive a special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.
For Story Time today we worked on the letter W. The kiddos came up with so many W words today! We read the books "Worm Gets a Job" by Kathy Caple, "Willy the Worm" by Christianne C. Jones, and "Wonder Worm" by Bob and Brittany Reese. Then we used some gummy worms and wiggled them in to the shape of W's. We finished up with a science experiment. Before we read our books we soaked some gummy worms (sliced into skinnier pieces) in water & baking soda. After we let the worms soak for about 15 minutes (while we read) we added them individually to a jar of vinegar. (the kids thought it was water until I had them each smell it...haha) They began to wiggle and swim around. It was pretty neat! Worms are super fun!
Story Time was colorful today! We worked on the letter V. We read the books "Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!" by Candace Fleming and "Eating the Alphabet" by Lois Ehlert. Then we did some vegetable stamping. We used the cut off end of celery and little broccoli trees. Each child created a very different piece of work. :)

We had a lively bunch today at Story Time! We worked on the letter U today. We read the books "I Wished for a Unicorn" by Robert Heidbreder, "Dora and the Unicorn King" by Ellie Seiss, and "Unicorn Wings" by Mallory Loehr. Then we decorated and created our own unicorn horns. And let me tell you.....trying to get a picture of all the kiddos looking at me was TRICKY today! HA! Must have been all the magical unicorn energy! I'm posting them all because I thought they were so funny! Love these kids!
Our After School Program this week was really fun! We started with doing some Valentine Letter Mad Libs. Soooo funny! The kids laughed and laughed! :D Their laughter seriously made my day!!! Then we had a relay game where each kiddo had on a pair of gloves and had to unwrap a Starburst. It's trickier than it sounds! The older kiddos had a good start but then the younger kids made a quick catch up and won! Then we finished up with some Valentine cookie decorating. Such a tasty holiday!
Endicott Story Time was bustling with T words today. We read some cute books: "Seaweed Soup" by Stuart J. Murphy, "The Turtle and the Hippopotamus" by Kate Banks, and "Melvin and the Boy" by Lauren Castillo. Then the kiddos did some cutting and gluing and came up with some pretty darn cute turtles. :)
