S is for Silly!

Today was a first for Story Time in Endicott, since I started working here a little over 2 years ago. 1 kid for Story Time. One! (I think the yucky bug is in full throttle in Endicott.) He just happens to be my favorite and I think he totally loved the one-on-one attention with mom. ;) We started with practicing writing the letter S and then we got a little SILLY coming up with SILLY words that started with the letter S....and of course some nonsense words as well. Then we read some great SILLY books and had lots of laughs! We read "The Book With No Pictures" by B.J. Novak (We actually read this a couple times---I totally recommend this book!!!), "Silly Suzy Goose" by Petr Horacek, "Silly Sally" by Audrey Wood, and "Silly Tilly" by Eileen Spinelli. Then I asked, "Who tries to make people laugh?" And without skipping a beat the question was answered with, "Me!" So true. But I was referring to clowns. :) So we ended our Story Time with making balloon animals, or swords, or boomerangs, or necklaces....whatever shape my sweet boy could shape the balloons into. ONE kid at Story Time still qualifies as a quality program. :)

***Book Club***

***ENDICOTT LIBRARY BOOK CLUB***
Our next Book Club meeting will be:
Thursday, February 19 @ 7:00 pm.
We will be discussing the book:
"Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen.

Orphaned, penniless, Jacob Jankowski jumps a freight train in the dark, and in that instant, transforms his future. By morning, he's landed a job with the Flying Squadron of the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. By nightfall, he's in love. In an America made colourless by prohibition and the Depression, the circus is a refuge of sequins and sensuality. But behind the glamour lies a darker world, where both animals and men are dispensable. Where falling in love is the most dangerous act of all...

R is for Raccoon!

Another fun Story Time today @ the Endicott Library! We worked on the letter R today. We traced letters, did a maze to help the raccoon get home to his tree, then read the books "The Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn, "Adam Raccoon and the Circus Master" by Glen Keane, and "Gobble It Up!" by Jim Arnosky. "Gobble It Up!" was a fun song book that had a cd that we were able to listen to. Then we made some fun raccoon masks and took some cute raccoon pictures outside.

Q is for Quilt!

Big Q, little q....what begins with Q? We talked about quilts during Story Time today. We read the books "Papa and the Pioneer Quilt" by Jean Van Leeuwen and "The Kindness Quilt" by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. Then we pieced together our own quilts for our cute little paper people. Lots of glue and smiles at the Endicott Library today!

After School Program 1-14-15

January is National Train Your Dog Month. So we had a great visitor at the library for our After School Program this week. Etol Lillard brought her puppy, Chesso, (yes PUPPY!) to show us some tips & tricks of dog training. Etol has had certified therapy dogs for years and when Roxanna passed away this last year Etol got Chesso and has been starting to train him. The children were able to give Chesso treats and learn some do's and don'ts when it comes to dogs. Then we ended with making some balloon dogs. Great, noisy fun!

P is for Pirate!

Arrrrrr! A great start back into the swing of Story time. We worked on the letter P today. We started with our hand print pirates....totally cute! We then worked on writing the letter P. Then we read the books "Papa is a Pirate" by Katharina Grossmann-Hensel and "Pirate Boy" by Eve Bunting. Then we had a preschool style pirate treasure hunt. Each boy was given a pirate name and an eye patch then we hopped, skipped, ran, walked, tip toed, and twirled from place to place...and finally reached our treasure of "golden" coin necklaces and pirate book marks. So much fun!
