After School Program -- Recycled Hanging Baskets w/Judi Gray

Our After School Program was AWESOME yesterday! We recycled some 2 liter bottles into hanging planter baskets. The kids had so much fun and were so excited and willing to do what needed to be done. We also held our election for officers for our Wildcat Recyclers Club. The kids who wanted to run for president, etc stood in front of everyone and told how they would do their job and to help others. We had some really great speeches. Our new President is Skyler, Vice-President is Kameron, and Secretary is Haylie. I think they are going to do a great job. We're also working on a Historian position with Jasmyn. These kids are going to change the world!!! Thanks to our volunteers for the help and a big thank you to Judi for all your hard work. And thanks to Trinity Lutheran Church for being so flexible and cooperative with letting us use your building!

Voting for officers.

New Wildcat Recyclers Club President Skyler, Vice-President Kameron, and Secretary Haylie.  They are already planning a "clean up" day in Endicott.

Our hanging planter baskets started as 2 liter bottles.  The ends were cut off....we taped the rough edges, punched holes for string, added the string for hanging......

...then filled them with soil....

...then added the flowers.

Judi showing us all how it's done.

What a great project.  The homes of Endicott are even more beautiful today with their new hanging flowers!

Easter Story Time

Eggs and of course Easter we the hot topics today at Story Time. We read the books "First the Egg" by Laura Vaccaro Seeger, "One More Egg" by Sarah Emmanuelle Burn, "Egg-napped!" by Marisa Montes, and "Horton Hatches the Egg" by Dr. Seuss. By the time we got to the last book, the kidlets were getting a little we didn't finish it...which happens once in a while. :o) We colored eggs and bunnies for a tic-tac-toe game and then......we had our very own Easter Egg Hunt! Since we only had 4 kiddos big enough for the hunt....and 72 can imagine that they all went home with quite a full bag of treasures today! I think I have the best job in the world!

Funny faces and favorite finds!

Professional egg hunters right here.....

Full bags!

There was a lot of participation as I read the books "One Little Lamb" by Elaine Greenstein, "Sheep Out to Eat" by Nancy Shaw, "Where Is the Green Sheep?" by Mem Fox and Judy Horacek, and "Russell the Sheep" by Rob Scotton. Then we made our very own flufffy, wooly sheep. So cute!

"My Many Colored Days"

We closed our Dr. Seuss celebrating with three books. We read "Mr. Brown Can MOO! Can You?" by Dr. Seuss, "Hop On Pop" by Dr. Seuss, and "My Many Colored Days" by Dr.... Seuss. Then as we were coloring our pictures and talking about how different colors make us feel, we watched the video "NOTES ALIVE! Dr. Seuss My Many Colored Days." It's an animated video that's narrated by Holly Hunter and features some beautiful music from the Minnesota Orchestra. The kids seemed to enjoy it.
Lots to color today...

We shared some colorful Skittles while we watched the show and colored.

This was the most quiet story time ever!!!  ;o)

Story Time 3-1-13 "Rhyming and Feet"

We had an itty bitty group for Story Time it was short and sweet. Since tomorrow is Dr. Seuss' birthday...we started the morning by reading "The Foot Book" by Dr. Seuss. It is always a fun read and easy for the little ones to read and rhyme along with. We also read "When the Wizzy Foot Goes Walking" by Roni Schotter and "Ten Big Toes and a Prince's Nose" by Nancy Gow. We talked about rhyming words and feet. Then did an activity where the kiddos drew a picture of how big they thought their feet were and then we traced their actual foot to compare. :o)
Yes, we were standing on the table.....shhhhhhh.

The kid drawing in this pic is hard to see, but I lost track of counting toes at around 17!

Standing on the table again......don't try this at home.  ;o)
Look at that cute little foot!!!
The end results.
